Taxation

Friends and I debate about income tax vs. sales tax. For the most part I seem to be on the loosing side of this argument as the pro-sales tax opinion. My arguments are as follows though. Income tax is a slave tax. It forces us to be taxed, and without working we cannot be taxed, so the state must make us work, even if it is not in our best interests at that point in time to be working. This plays out in both how we qualify for health care, and the massive cost of education and the debt that makes sure we will continue to work for the next 10 years. Sales tax helps people save money/pay off debt. If your dollar goes farther by paying off debt verses buying more because you will not be taxed, then you will be more likely to pay down the credit card debt than to be taxed by making new purchases. This isn't a perfect science but does and will occur. Sales tax also takes the most that take the most. We tax petroleum completely on a pay by use system and the same should be the same on all products. Sales tax can be more precisely focused to relieve the basic needs of people, while discouraging the spending of welfare and social security dollars on luxuries, which is not the intent of those dollars. Feel free to add more, or bring up counter arguments. Do you find this valuable? |
